“I started using PSIM in 1997. Over the years the program helped me in a great variety of power electronics design projects, including dc-dc converters, power-factor correctors, UPSs, standalone and grid-connected inverters, battery chargers, electronic ballasts, high-frequency automotive ignition systems, and advanced PWM control ICs. It became an indispensible tool that I am turning to on a daily basis.

For my work the most important benefits and features of PSIM are:

    • First of all, it is an excellent time-saving tool in product development because it eliminates the need for multiple hardware iterations. After verifying the design by PSIM, even the most complex power electronics systems tend to work right away as expected.
    • The built-in AC sweep tool carries out the frequency response analysis on the actual switchmode circuit and not on a simplified small-signal model. This makes it is easy to include the parasitics and other second-order effects, and eliminates the need for and tedium of developing the averaged model. It also allows investigating novel power converters whose frequency responses have not yet been determined analytically.
    • The program has a comprehensive library of generic power electronics components, signal sources, control blocks, and measurement functions. It is quick and easy to set up, simulate and probe even a very complicated system.
    • The powerful subcircuit feature and the wide range of combined components (RLC branches, transformers, single-phase and three-phase diode and thyristors bridges, etc.) keep the visual clutter on the computer screen at minimum.
    • The simulation is very fast, which allows exploring alternative design approaches and component sensitivities without spending a lot of time on waiting for the results. The outstanding processing speed of PSIM is also very useful in cases when both line-frequency and high-frequency components are present, e.g. power factor correctors or inverters.
    • Each revision of the program included practical time-saving suggestions from the users, including myself.

In general, PSIM is a flexible, easy-to-use and cost-effective software tool, optimally suited for power electronics simulations.”
